Ponder this

Forgive us our trespasses AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US.

Is our being forgiven the result of forgiving others? Is it in proportion? How are the two phrases related?

What great questions. I'm no theologian but here's my opinion. Just as we all wish to be known for our intentions and not out actions, we want to be forgiven without doing the work of forgiving others. I think God forgives me no matter what. I think when Jesus taught us how to pray he threw in a reminder that we also have the privilege, right and responsibility to forgive others.

I think the great benefit of forgiveness is it frees our hearts and minds.

There is no proportion of God's forgiveness and grace that I can accomplish. I can only remember what Jesus taught and try to live up to it.

How do you know if you've forgiven? Is wanting to forgive enough?

Don't know,

Prayers continue for you and Gary.

That line is why I always say the Lord's Prayer with fear and trembling...
